Social networks are mines of information, but during crisis situations they are overloaded with continuous updates, reports of new developments, and calls for relief. This amount of information is huge and often unmanageable for journalists, so gathering and reporting the right news can be a very demanding challenge. The European Journalism Centre has now created the Verification Handbook, a definitive guide to verifying digital content. It provides step-by-step guidelines for distinguishing fake and real information, and helps journalists keep faith with truth-telling also during emergency coverage—an activity that can literally be a matter of life or death.
